Where to buy affordable rugs online in Canada in 2022

Looking to find the best places to buy affordable rugs in Canada? Look no further. The internet is a great place to shop for just about anything, including rugs. With so many options available, it can be hard to know where to look for affordable rugs — but there are plenty of retailers that have some great deals. 

It’s hard not to stare at a beautiful and intricate rug. They add warmth and texture, which makes your entire home feel so cozy!

However, it can also add a dent in your wallet. Sure, you could head to Sears or Ikea and pick up a cheap one for $599 (that’s what we Canadians call a “deal”), but rugs can get so much more expensive than that. Many people are now turning to the internet to buy rugs online in Canada; with more selection, why wouldn’t you?

How much does a good rug cost in Canada?

A good rug can run you up to $1,500+ depending on where you shop, the rug size and rug material, and that’s just not realistic for most people. So to save you from searching, I’ve found some fabulous, stylish & affordable rugs for your home that’ll arrive straight to your doorstep!

Are US retailers an option? Of course. But… there are a few negatives to consider if you’re purchasing rugs online from the United States. The USD to CAD exchange rate is currently not working in our favour, shipping costs may be more expensive or Canadian taxes and duties. 

Therefore, I highly suggest purchasing from local sites or from websites that have a presence in Canada.

Here are five places to buy affordable rugs online in Canada. 

Where to buy rugs online in Canada

1. Rugs.ca — Best for all rug styles

Rugs.ca is a Canadian rug website that offers a large selection of affordable rugs. They have over 200,000 rugs in stock, and prices are extremely reasonable. Their website is easy to navigate, and their customer service is fantastic!

My favourite part about their website is that within the product description of each rug, a high-quality video is included showing the texture and colour up close. This is a huge plus because you can get insight into the quality of the rug.

Each rug includes free shipping and a 30-day return policy. They have a myriad of styles to appeal to a large demographic. Most rug styles come in multiple colours and styles.

I am incredibly impressed with the rug I bought, called the Madrid Rug. It’s super soft, a beautiful pattern and it was really affordable. I’m definitely going to be purchasing again from here in the future.

2. Amazon.ca — Best for all rug styles

If you’re looking for affordable rugs at a good price point, Amazon is a great place to start. They have an amazing selection of rugs, which makes it easy to find something that works with your budget and space.

The best part about Amazon is that they offer free shipping (hello, Amazon Prime) on most items (up to $25). So if you buy multiple items from them at once, they’ll give you free shipping!

Plus, if you’re not 100% satisfied with your purchase, Amazon offers a 30-day return policy for most items sold by Amazon.ca.

3. Crate & Barrel — Best neutral or woven rugs

Crate & Barrel is a great place to buy semi-affordable rugs online in Canada. They have a wide selection of different styles. The best part? You can browse through all the designs on their website and see how they look in your home before making the purchase!

They have an impressive selection of rugs, including leather ones and even some with special designs like stripes or polka dots. They also offer free shipping on orders over $99 (or $49 for smaller orders). They even offer outdoor patio rugs that allow you to keep your outdoor furniture protected from dirt and stains during inclement weather.

I would say they are a little more expensive compared to some other rug retailers in this list, but I’m a huge fan of Crate and Barrel, so I couldn’t leave them out.

4. Wayfair.ca — Best for a wide selection of rugs

Wayfair is a furniture, home decor and accessories retailer that started in Boston but has since grown to include more than 10 fulfillment centers across the United States. It’s also one of the best places to buy rugs online in Canada.

Wayfair has hundreds of different styles of rugs in all sizes and shapes, including runners, scatter rugs and larger ones for the living room or dining room. Wayfair Canada also offers lots of options for runners that match your decor — from solid colors, modern traditional to patterns or even stripes. They carry one of my favourite brands which is Loloi rugs. 

Plus, if you’re looking for an Oriental rug for your home, there are several options with traditional designs like mandalas or paisleys.

There are also many different styles of area rugs on the website, including modern designs with geometric shapes or vintage-inspired styles with floral patterns. Plus, there are plenty of options available at affordable prices so you can find something within your budget (and if you don’t see what you want on the site, it’s easy to filter by price point).

6. Rug and Weave — Best modern traditional rugs

Rug and Weave is an amazing local Canadian decor shop similar to McGee and Co, Amber Interiors, and other shops I love but aren’t as easily available in Canada. They started out selling vintage and antique rugs locally, then we brought a small curated collection online.

Rug and Weave sell rugs that are inspired by nature, drawing inspiration from the beauty of nature. Their collection includes modern-day designs and traditional ones. Their range includes southwest rugs, kid’s room rugs, living room rugs and more.

7. Ruggable — Best durable rugs

They everything from small area rugs to large area rugs as well as runner rugs and everything in between! No matter what size or style you’re looking for, Ruggable has it covered! Not only do they sell online, but Ruggable rugs are also available in-store at Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walmart and Bed Bath & Beyond.

Ruggable rugs are both beautiful and machine-washable. Designed created to withstand whatever life throws at them: dirt, dust, spills, and even pet accidents. If you have a family or pets, Ruggable is a great option for you.

Despite being machine washable, I think they have really modern and unique rug designs. They often partner with interior designers to release special collections. I haven’t purchased one yet, but they are high up on my wishlist. 

8. Etsy — Best for unique or one-of-a-kind rugs

If you’re looking for a high-quality rug that won’t break the bank, check out Etsy. The website is home to a huge selection of handmade rugs made by local artisans. Supporting a small Etsy business? Say no more!

Etsy has thousands of options for every room in your house, and you can even search for specific colors or styles. According to Etsy, the average price of their rugs is $20-$30 per square foot. This means that if you want a 10’x10′ rug, it’ll cost around $200-$300.

Pro tip: Check out reviews by other customers to see if they had trouble with their order or if their item arrived as expected. If there are any issues with the seller’s record, try looking for another shop that offers similar items at a lower price point or better customer service record.

9. Bouclair — Best for modern rugs

Bouclair is a Canadian company that sells furniture, bedding and rugs. The company has been in business since 1979 and has grown to be one of the largest online retailers in Canada.

Bouclair offers a wide selection of rugs at affordable prices. The online store carries many different styles of rugs for every room in your home. Whether you want to decorate your living room or bedroom or try one of Bouclair’s outdoor rugs, there are plenty of options that will fit your needs.

The downside is that they don’t have a lot of variety, and the shipping costs can be high depending on where you live in Canada (Alberta to BC is usually around $50). But if you’re looking for a good price on an affordable rug, this is definitely your best bet!

10. Urban Outfitters — Best for hippie chic rugs

Urban Outfitters offers an amazing selection of cute geometric and woven rugs. They extremely wallet-friendly and have a variety of fun patterns and designs. If you’re into hippie chic decor, then Urban Outfitters is the perfect shop for you.

These rugs can be on the thinner or shaggier side, so they are great for apartments or layering over the carpet, which is a pretty popular trend right now. If you’re into hippie chic decor, then Urban Outfitters is the perfect shop for you.

11. Structube — Best for wool rugs

Structube offers so many different styles and sizes of rugs that you are sure to find something that fits your budget and needs. Their selection ranges from simple, modern designs to more traditional patterns and textures. The best part is that they are all very affordable!

Our first living room rug is from Structube, and I absolutely love it! Although I purchased it in-store, Structube is a fantastic online option. I’m not going to lie, some of their rugs are not the cutest, but the wool rugs are to die for! The pricing of their wool rugs varies from $300-$500, so mid-range, but they are worth it. The quality is excellent.

12. Overstock.ca — Best for modern rugs

The best part about shopping at Overstock is that most rugs are extremely affordable — even the more expensive ones! For example, a 5′ x 7′ wool rug from the Nourison brand costs $599, which is less than half the price of similar styles from other retailers like Crate & Barrel (which charges $1,199). You’ll find similar savings on other brands as well. For example, an 8′ x 11′ wool rug from Safavieh costs $799 and a 5′.
