Modern Traditional Kitchens With Classic Wood Accents You’ll Love
It’s nice moving into a fresh canvas. We can experiment with design in new ways, and a modern traditional decor style is the new direction we’re going in. I couldn’t be more inspired!
Previously in our Kitchener bungalow, we renovated our kitchen with all-white cabinets, countertops, appliances and backsplash.
Don’t get me wrong, who doesn’t love a fresh coat of white paint? It can brighten and modernize any room. However, our old kitchen was VERY, very white. Too white. Which I never thought could be a thing but I assure you it can.

Going modern traditional
Our new decor style as a whole will be modern traditional, which I’m not quite sure is the official term. The way I describe it is if you took traditional and contemporary and they had a baby. Boom, there you have it. We might add a splash of farmhouse flair because, for the most part, our Canadian home will lean towards more of a classic decor style. Our house is a tutor style built in the 1970s, and I’m a big believer in matching your decor style to the architecture style. For example, our 1950’s bungalow had a mid-century modern decor style.
For the kitchen, we’re opting for a mixture of white and natural wood cabinets. The cabinet boxes will be purchased from Ikea Canada, and we will be adding custom doors from a Canadian cabinet and door supplier.
The natural wood cabinet doors will certainly add contrast and warmth to our space. On the other hand, they’ll also add a bit of uniqueness. Personally, I haven’t been in a ton of kitchens with this aesthetic so, it’s something I was inspired through scrolling Pinterest. For instance, most people are trying to get away from outdated wood cabinets made popular in the ’80s and ’90s, by painting over them.
I’ve rounded up some of my favourite examples of wood cabinet door accents used in the kitchen and dining areas to give you some inspiration!
